From playful and fun, to politically correct: Censoring Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl books, nationally revered and loved by kids everywhere, are having lots of alterations made to them by woke, politically correct editors who want to appease snowflake adults.  Roald Dahl, nationally revered and loved by kids (lots of whom are also adults now), is also dead and unable to speak out against the censorship being placed on his books.

I am against censorship in books and I am against banning books; sanitising them isn’t too far off. There are books and authors whose writing I despise – but I don’t believe in rewriting or banning them. Even if it is Salman Rushdie.

It seems to me that people would rather pull the wool over their children’s eyes than use ‘offensive’ language as an opportunity to explain the real world to them; the real world which, might I add, is a lot worse than how Dahl portrayed it. And let’s be very honest, the reason we love those books so much is because that language is all around us; it’s playful and it’s descriptive and it’s something we understand. I’m sorry you don’t like the words ‘ugly’ and ‘attractive’, but they are adjectives that exist nonetheless. It makes no sense to censure the use of the word ‘ugly’ when it is being used to describe characters whose entire story is based on the fact that they are ugly (both inside and out). How do you rewrite that? Not to go all Hopkins-Clarkson-Morgan, but I don’t understand why we need gender-neutral terms in the books either. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why ‘Cloud-men’ is more offensive than ‘Cloud-people’. Why is the word ‘man’ offensive? Men and women, boys and girls, exist; this fact shouldn’t offend anyone, regardless of their own beliefs about gender. Are we going to rewrite every character in every book as gender-neutral? Must we rewrite Harry Potter as the person who lived? Read more

America's chickens are coming home to roost

“America’s chickens are coming home to roost! We took this country by terror away from the Sioux, the Apache, the Arawak, the Comanche, the Arapaho, the Navajo. Terrorism! We took Africans from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism! We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel. We bombed the black civilian community of Panama with stealth bombers and killed unarmed teenagers and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard-working fathers. We bombed Gadafi’s home and killed his child. ‘Blessed are they who bash your children’s head against a rock!’We bombed Iraq. We killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to pay bac for the attack on our embassy. Killed hundreds of hard-working people; mothers and fathers who left home to go that day, not knowing that they would never get back home. We bombed Hiroshima! We bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye! Kids playing in the playground, mothers picking up children after school, civilians – not soldiers – people just trying to make it day by day. We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and Black South Africans, and now we are indignant? Because the stuff we have done overseas has now been brought back into our own front yards! America’s chickens are coming home to roost! Violence begets violence. Hatred begets hatred and terrorism begets terrorism.”

The subliminal mind fuck America

Has any song ever been so relevant? Remember when people made fun of me for having this on repeat?
You know what I want? What I really, really want? Garlic bread with cheese. From Pizza Hut. I have yet to find a garlic bread that satisfies me more than that garlic bread, and I’m tempted to go to Pizza Hut right now just for that. Because at least I don’t have to worry that someone’s going to shoot me dead for being a brown, Muslim girl going to go get some garlic bread.
But right now, I’m feeling sorry for hard-working and educated Americans.
“THIS IS AMERICA BITCH”. As I said those words, you imaged a white, aggressive male, probably from a Southern state. Now times that by a bajillion and that’s how many people are now openly using ‘this is America’ to fuel their racism.
This is America, bitch” now means “This is a land where I can be racist, shoot you, also Mexicans and Muslims get out. My president said so.”

Brexit

So… we’re out of the EU.
Time for me to pack up and move to Canada, because all I’m getting from this country is a vibe of whiteness and “WE’RE TAKING BACK OUR COUNTRY”. I bet we’ll have a Britain First government in the next election.
I always talk about how everybody should vote or avoid complaining about the outcome, and I’ve voted ever since I’ve been old enough to, but I didn’t vote this time because I couldn’t.  I would feel terrible, because I really didn’t want us to leave [despite my jokes about there being too many flats for too many immigrants], but then I saw how many more people voted leave and I was appalled. I genuinely thought I could trust the common sense of the British public to vote remain, but it seems like too many people are afraid of immigration and are fragile in their sense of national identity. That or they’re wealthy enough to take the risk. Or they’re dying so it doesn’t matter to them.
David Cameron has left, and whilst he is so affectionately referred to as a ‘bellend’ by so many people, are we really better off with Boris as our prime minister? Reminder: Boris has done nothing good for London except the bikes. Pretty much every young person wanted to remain – aka the only people who the brexit will really affect.

My 500 Words, Day 4: Learn to free write. [Brussels]

“Whoever kills a soul…it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely” [Quran, Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:32)]

So in light of the Brussels attack, which ISIS claim responsibility for, according to European  governments, I’ll just free write on what I always talk about. I could be a conspiracy theorist and talk about how European governments orchestrate these attacks themselves on weak buildings and bomb-proof passports, claiming to KNOW it’s ISIS, just to wage another war on terror. But hopefully we should already know this. Does nobody find it funny that there’s an attack on EU central right before the upcoming EU referendum…? I mean Britain need to stay and assist their neighbours after this brutal attack and and create a strong Europe v Muslims ISIS, right? Assuming that ISIS itself does have an agenda, Ima tell you what this agenda is, and hopefully you should then see that, in fact, the Western governments are ISIS.

What the West AND ISIS want you to see
What the West AND ISIS want you to see [source]
First of all, ISIS is anything BUT Islamic, something I can’t believe people don’t know by now. And as much as the West likes to talk about how Islam is a problem, Muslims are violent and oppress their women, Muslims know nothing about human rights, Muslims are scary, blah bloody blah, let me take a split second to tell every one of you to do some thorough research on your corrupt and shitty governments, since too many of you are blind to the immoral greed they practice. The West creates Al Qaeda and ISIS but can’t handle them when it gets out of hand! You wanted to just create one small reason for the ‘war on terror’ but years later you fail to recognise that…you literally…created this….war…just to have a war….and now you don’t wanna deal with it….I cannot get over the extent to which these nations are willing to go to further their own interests and agendas. To the extent of harming their own people whilst pretending it’s an enemy, just to have an excuse to attack said enemy and anybody associated with their name? (I.e all Muslims). I’m not saying ISIS don’t have a goal. I’m saying the West is disgustingly exploiting this situation. Anyway.

Tax the rich, feed the poor

This is part of a series I am going to do, as there are many important things I would like to speak about. Here you’ll find the summaries of each post. For a world who is so proud of our technological advances, we are relapsing and it’s time for me to unleash my frustrations.
We are a world who let a witty black president make us believe that we are overcoming racism. But we are regressing dangerously fast. Where it is okay to arrest a non-white child over a clock they thought was a bomb. Where it is okay for the police to violate someone just for being black.  Every black person is a thug, every Asian or Arab is a terrorist, every Mexican is a lazy criminal. But every white cop isn’t a violent, racist piece of shit – even though, painfully, we have a multitude of evidence for it. There is one and only one race that is never generalised. But no, we are definitely overcoming racism. There is definitely no preferred race in this world.
We are a world where feminists are becoming much more active. Women are becoming stronger, in charge of the image of their own bodies, because that is the most important thing we have to deal with, right? Not women being given the same recognition as men when achieving something great, not women being given the education to achieve the same or higher positions as men, but the right to be naked without being objectified. The right to be respected without having to earn it. Women have started to strip naked in order to reject objectification, to storm into religious meetings and proclaim that women must not have the choice to cover up, because to be free means to be naked. Women are denying other women the right to be their own woman. But feminism is definitely a step in the direction for all of us.
We are a world that believes that women should be their own type of beautiful, but men must still look like underwear models, a world where women claim to be in a patriarchal society but forget that men are subject to objectification too. We finally believe that women should reject the photoshopped images in magazines, containing standards of beauty that don’t exist. But we still have to conform to European standards, of course,  just without being stick thin – we have come to the conclusion that only fat women are “real women”. Instead of urging us to become fit, we must be happy with unhealthy bodies. Buzzfeed articles recreate Disney princesses as the “average woman”, telling us that ‘fat’ and unhealthy looking is average. The media tells us that we have to have European features and European skin, but the assets of “exotic” women. Sultry eyes, a big butt and everything else. But you have to be fair skinned. Body shaming begins again. Racism complements it. Read more
